Maple Ridge

Half of our classes will go outside for recess, while the other half of classes will remain inside to eat. This will allow for decreased movement of groups through our hallways and doors. It will also allow for separate yard areas for each homeroom group.

1:20 - 3:00 instructional time
3:00  dismissal (no supervision after school)

Arrival Routines

For the safety of our students, staff, and community, our school yards and building are restricted to staff only. We will have additional staff available to help with student arrival and dismissal on the first days of school to help.

The following will guide our safe arrival of students:

  • students only on the school yard, please
  • if driving to school, please consider walking a block - our roads and lots will be very busy on the first few days
  • if dropping off, please remain in your vehicle OR park in a designated parking spot
  • kindergarten students will gather in the enclosed kindergarten yard
  • grades 1-8 students will proceed right away to their line and wait until 8:30 am
  • students will line up with their homeroom class, at their designated door
  • dots will help students maintain physical distancing
  • educators will begin instructional time at 8:30 am

Recesses will be split into two groups. Each homeroom class will be assigned a zone. We will look at rotating zones periodically (e.g., after 2 weeks).

Classes will end their day at the same designated entrance where they started in the morning. Zones in yellow in the map below show places where you can meet your child. Orange areas are for those who are parking on school property. Click a coloured shap to see details.


  • All students are required to wear a mask.
  • Please send 3 masks per day so they can be changed when they become damp or dirty.
  • Educators will work with students to promote appropriate use and care of masks.
  • For safety reasons, using lanyards to hang masks is discouraged.


  • Water Bottle: Drinking fountains are closed. Water bottle filling stations are available for use on the first and second floors.
  • Cloth Mask(s): As noted above, cloth masks may be brought from home and/or provided by us. Regular washing is important. Please refer to Ottawa Public Health for more information about mask selection, care and use.
  • Outdoor Clothing: We will be making frequent use of outdoor learning spaces, in different types of weather. Dressing in layers and wearing an appropriate jacket and footwear is important.
  • Indoor Footwear: While we are not asking for indoor shoes at this time (having students store their belongings in their backpacks or in their desks), your child may bring a pair of indoor shoes on a day when boots are needed outside (i.e., rainy days).
  • School Supplies: We will provide all essential supplies. Your child's teacher will communicate these with you if there are specific optional items that would be helpful.
