Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

Students are provided with many opportunities to develop leadership and decision -making skills. Through their actions and initiatives, our educators demonstrate that they take responsibility to community seriously and that building a community is a collaborative process. They promote and display positive attitudes and care about their school, their community and the world.

At Maple Ridge Elementary School, educators listen to student ideas and encourage and support them to organize fun spirit days for staff and students to engage in various charitable initiatives throughout the school year. Examples of student –led initiatives include: collecting snowsuits for an exchange at school and in our community; a non-perishable food drive that amassed 1,196 items for the local food bank. Philanthropy is not new to Maple Ridge. Indeed, there is a history of generous donations raised on behalf of local and international communities. This year, Maple Ridge has already contributed to the fight against cancer by its active participation in the Terry Fox Run and students have raised money to support a variety of international non-profit organizations.

Staff

Our staff members have a wealth of professional qualifications including Bachelors and Masters degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, Physical Education and Science, as well as additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, Music, Visual Arts, Guidance, and Computers in Education. They have actively participated in numerous Board-wide professional development activities in literacy and numeracy, and we recognize their initiative by providing and supporting opportunities for further professional growth. We also recognize staff leadership via personal interactions with one another, letters of thanks, school announcements, school newsletters, assemblies, performance appraisals, and our principal’s report to school council.

Maple Ridge staff members routinely take the lead in Board initiatives as coordinators of sporting events. Our staff is comprised of Director’s Citation nominees and are collectively dedicated to the pursuit of excellence for our students.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Maple Ridge volunteers devote countless hours to the school through their hard work in the classrooms, library, office and the wide range of field trips in which our students participate. Our dedicated school council meets monthly and is a source of unwavering support. Through the council’s fundraising efforts, our students benefit from exciting resources such as: Big Books and Literature to support Math Literacy in the Kindergarten; Books for our Literacy Room to support Primary and Junior Students and the development of higher order comprehension skills and critical thinking; and funds to support our technology initiatives in each of our classrooms. Our parents, guardians and volunteers share our dedication to excellence for our students and are an essential part of the Maple Ridge Community.

Community

Maple Ridge Elementary School is fortunate to have an involved and supportive community. Our welcoming environment and commitment to making a difference locally and globally have enabled our school to be a contributing member of our community. Local area businesses regularly provide support for fundraising events and student recognition. We recognize the contributions of our community partners through notes of thanks, school newsletters, daily announcements and reports to the school council.
